Who Will Go # 2?

Posted by

For months leading up to tonight’s draft we heard over and over again that this will be one of the deepest drafts in the last 25 years. Now that draft night is upon us it has become Anthony Davis and then everyone else. According to the Experts there is a huge drop off from Anthony Davis and the rest of the field. We don’t necessarily believe that! We know the Hornets will take Anthony Davis and his unibrow with the number 1 overall pick. The real mystery is who will go number 2. The Charlotte Bobcats have the number 2 pick tonight as of now. We keep hearing rumors of them trying to trade down, they are juggling between 5 legitimate trade offers, but for sake of this article we will discuss who the Bobcats should take since they currently have the pick.

There is a pool of four players that could easily go number 2, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (MKG), Thomas Robinson, Bradley Beal, and Harrison Barnes. The Bobcats need help at every single position they were absolutely pathetic last year. One NBA expert went as far as saying the Bobcats don’t have a single legitimate starter at any position. That’s a damn shame! We feel like they are at least solid at the point with Kemba Walker and DJ Augustin. They just traded for Ben Gordon so at least they have a guard off the bench (we hope) that can fill it up on any given night.

We would say that MKG is the best available player at the number 2 spot because of what all he brings to the table. He is a winner, he has lost just 10 games in his high school and college career. MKG can take games over in an array of ways from scoring, creating for his teammates, rebounding, or just sitting down on someone on the defensive end. He is an emotional leader and is not accustomed to losing, but he is the youngest player in the draft so he may not be able to deal with losing on a regular basis in Charlotte. That is the only reason why we wouldn’t take him at number 2. I think he would be a perfect fit for Sacramento at number 5 because they already have a lot of young talent and MKG can come in there and be a leader and use his versatility to get them to the next level.

Bradley Beal is more of guy you bring in to fill a need since he is an “Elite” level shooter says the so called NBA experts, even though he only shot 33.9% from the college 3point line last year. We wouldn’t build a team around him. The best fit for him might be number 3 in Washington, let him spread the floor for John Wall to get in the paint and wreak havoc.

Harrison Barnes surprised a lot of people with just how athletic he really is at the NBA Draft combine. We wouldn’t take him at number 2 though. He definitely has a legit skill set already, where a lot of other guys will have to find their niche in the NBA. Barnes has an NBA level mid range game and has an NBA body. We just don’t think he is going to come in and be an immediate difference maker. He needs to be paired with other young talent so they can grow together and he doesn’t have to be the man right away. Cleveland at 4 may be a good spot for him, since they have a star in the making in Uncle Drew… excuse us we mean Kyrie Irving and a good young big in Tristan Thompson. He isn’t better than MKG, but Cleveland is a better fit for Barnes.

Thomas Robinson isn’t our favorite player in the world we can’t even lie to you, but we do believe that if your going to start a team you should start it with a big. Robinson isn’t the biggest big in the world, Kansas had him listed at 6’10 but at the draft combine he measured in between 6’8 and 6’9. What we do like about him is that he is strong, athletic and he plays with a chip on his shoulder. He truly believes that he should be the number 1 pick in the draft and is on a mission to prove that he should have been. We have learned never to bet against a man on a mission. He won’t be an immediate star by any means, but we do think that he could develop into a solid double-double guy in league for years to come. If we were MJ we would take Robinson with the number 2 pick. Its the safest pick you can make.

Take the poll and let us know who you think should go number 2.
