Shaq to Interview for Orlando Magic GM Position

Posted by

ESPN’s Chris Brousard reported yesterday that the Orlando Magic plan on interviewing the Big Aristotle for their vacant General Manager position as early as next week. We aren’t gonna lie when we caught wind of this, it left us scratching our head. The most apparent reason for our baffled state is that Shaq has the same amount of front office experience as we do and that’s 0! When you have a team with legitimate championship aspirations and an already disgruntled superstar, should they really be trying to rebuild your team with a rookie general manager? We are going to have to emphatically say NO! We understand this is probably some sort of gimmick to keep Dwight Howard in a Magic jersey and contrary to popular belief Shaq and Dwight actually have a pretty good friendship. Most would believe there is some kind of beef between the two since Shaq has voiced publicly that he feels some kind of way about Dwight calling him self “Superman”, although it has been reported that Shaq has acted as a mentor to Dwight through out this season’s whole will he stay will he go debacle. Don’t get us wrong we see how this can make sense from a business stand point, Shaq did help build the Orlando Magic franchise, he did take them to their first NBA Finals, so its understandable they would want to bring it full circle and have Shaq be part of the organization as they try to lure big name players to come play alongside Dwight and bring their first World Championship to Orlando. We just aren’t sure this is the right time for this kind of move or if this move is enough to keep Dwight happy and get them over the hump to win a championship. This is a true gamble in our opinion it can honestly go either way. The Magic declined to comment when asked about this yesterday saying they will not be publicly discussing the process or timetable of their search for a new GM and coach, since they fired both Stan Van Gundy and Otis Smith on Monday. Let us know what you think, is this a good move for the Magic franchise or just a bad gimmick?
